A Battle Against Mange – One Dog at a Time

Last month, during my feeding rounds, I noticed that one of the young boys from the pack was missing. I searched for him, but it was late, and I couldn’t find him. The next morning, I went back, and there he was — scratching himself so hard that it broke my heart. When I got closer, I saw the red patches on his belly: it was mange.

He was only 8 months old. I didn’t have the medication with me then, and I was worried about how much he was suffering — and that the infection could spread to the rest of his pack.

Days passed, and he disappeared again. I kept looking for him until finally, one evening, a kind neighbor mentioned the little boy who wouldn’t stop scratching himself. We went together, and after a couple of tries, I managed to give him the medicine.

Today, he is much better. His tail is wagging again, and his pack has stayed safe and infection-free.

✨ In total, we have treated 20 dogs for mange so far (16 in 2024, and 4 already this year). The treatment is not easy — it’s expensive and imported — but whenever I see a dog suffering, I simply cannot walk away.

With constant food, water, and tick control, the number of mange cases has started to drop. Every healed dog is proof that care, persistence, and love truly matter.
