In the heat of the Egyptian summer, our daily routines change, and nobody embodies this shift better than Bolt. For the second year in a row, Bolt has claimed her post right in front of my building, effectively declaring herself the neighborhood’s official summer guard.
It’s been a joy to watch this transition. Back in 2024, when she first arrived, she was new to our short street, and people were naturally hesitant. Now? She runs the place! Even the doorman’s family, who used to be quite afraid of dogs, have welcomed her into the community. They know her well—she is quiet, gentle, and only raises her voice when a stranger who doesn’t belong in the street wanders by.
She has also mastered the summer shift rotation:
Morning Shift: She is stationed alongside her buddy, Spike.
Daytime: She holds down the fort solo.
Late Shift: She teams up with Basbousa to keep watch.
Whenever I head downstairs, Bolt is the first thing I see 😂. In fact, summer walks have become a thing of the past for us—we rely entirely on taxis now, simply to ensure that Bolt stays safely stationed exactly where she wants to be. She isn’t just a street dog; she is the heart of our street! 🐾
