Bolt

The Gourmet Queen Who Would Follow Me to Mars.

Meet Bolt. Don’t let the name fool you—while she’s fast when she wants to be, she first entered my life in a total “carb coma.” I found her when she was just a two-month-old ball of fluff, sleeping so peacefully beside her sibling that I actually panicked, thinking something was wrong! It turned out she was just a world-class sleeper.

Our bond was truly sealed the very next day. Little Bolt decided to secretly follow me on a walk, where she was unfortunately attacked by another dog. After we saved her, she was terrified, and I knew in that moment I couldn’t just be someone who fed her occasionally. I had to be her person.

Now two years old (and Fully vaccinated & sterilized), Bolt is the undisputed “Director of Drama” in our pack. She is hilariously jealous; if I dare to pet another dog in her presence, she’ll let me know exactly how she feels about it! She’s also a sophisticated foodie. Following in the footsteps of her adopted mom, Basbousa, Bolt has a refined palate for liver and lamb chops. But don’t you dare serve it raw—this lady demands her meals cooked “medium to well-done.”

Last summer, Bolt decided to officially “move in” by camping out in front of my building. It took some time to teach the doorman and neighbors that this big, friendly girl was vaccinated, docile, and just looking for a cool place to hide from the Egyptian heat. Now, she’s a local celebrity.

Bolt’s favorite way to say “I love you” is a quick lick right on the nose. She is the shadow that follows me everywhere—and I mean everywhere. If I decided to walk to Mars tomorrow, I know I’d turn around and find Bolt right behind me, ready for the adventure.
