Jack

Jack: The Smiler with a Naughty Streak.
If there were an award for the most improved member of our pack, it would go to Jack. When I first saw Jack and his sister, Basbousa, in early 2021, my heart broke for them. They were lonely, terrified, and so underweight you could see their ribcages.
Hunger had made Jack desperate; he used to bark at anyone carrying a shopping bag, hoping for a scrap of food.
With a lot of patience and some dedicated training from my husband, Jack began to transform. He learned that he didn’t need to shout to be noticed. He mastered the art of “sitting” and “greeting,” but his real secret weapon was his smile. Jack has a way of looking at you with a wide, toothy grin that captured the neighborhood’s heart. Suddenly, he wasn’t “that barking dog” anymore — he was the local celebrity everyone wanted to feed.
Jack’s journey hasn’t been without a bit of drama. For a while, he actually left his sister to join a different pack! It was a difficult time, and he even got into some trouble with the younger puppies; Bolt and her brother. But life on the streets has a way of coming full circle. After disappearing for a while and getting fixed and vaccinated (earning his “honorary ear tag”), Jack finally found his way back home to Basbousa and Tommy in 2024.
Today, Jack is the right-hand man to Tommy the Alpha. They are inseparable, spending their nights together in the mechanic’s yard. While he’s much healthier and heavier now, Jack hasn’t lost his spark. He’s a bit of a troublemaker who likes to pick play-fights with other dogs, only to run behind Tommy the moment things get serious! He’s a gourmet at heart who lives for grilled chicken, reminding us every day that even the most “aggressive” start can lead to a life full of smiles.
