Morning Crews and Afternoon Ladies: A Day in the Life of Love All, Feed All
People often ask me how I manage to care for so many animals. The truth is, it’s all about a routine that our pack has learned to love.
The Morning Crew: The Mechanic’s Yard Heroes My day starts at the mechanic’s yard with the “Morning Crew.” Tommy, our Alpha, is always the first to greet me with his noble (but blushing!) smile. Beside him is Jack, ready to start some trouble, and our “Golden Girl” Dahab, who usually has a stolen flip-flop or two hidden nearby. This is their time for breakfast and check-ups. While I feed the boys, Dahab makes her rounds as the resident nurse, making sure everyone is groomed and happy.
The Mid-Day Rounds: Cats and Community Between the morning and afternoon pack feedings, the work continues. My car is loaded with kibble as I head out to feed our 20 neighborhood cats. These feline friends are waiting at their specific spots, and they never forget a face! During this time, I also monitor over 25 other community dogs. While they don’t get a full meal every day, I check their health, provide water, and ensure they are safe.
The Afternoon Crew: The Ladies and the Gentle Giant As the sun begins to dip, it’s time for the “Afternoon Crew.” This shift is full of personality! Basbousa welcomes me with her famous “Jazz Hands,” while Bolt (the Diva) makes sure she is the center of attention. Then there’s Spike, our gentle giant, who uses his sad puppy eyes to ask for “just one more” treat. This group is all about high-end snacks and lots of play.
It’s a long day, and being self-funded means every meal is a labor of love. But when I see Tommy sleeping peacefully or Basbousa dancing, I know every minute is worth it.
